The Loft Market
in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area
Loft-style living has arrived in DC. Amidst the law firms and lobbyists
circling Capitol Hill, the clubs in Adams Morgan, people watching in Dupont Circle, and quiet bedroom communities in Arlington and Montgomery
counties, loft-style condos and apartments have sprung up. In the past few
years, more than 150
developments have been built, converted, or are planned with lofts
or units with loft-like
features. Most have high-ceilings, tall windows,
and open floor plans. Some have concrete floors, exposed ceilings and
ductwork. Very few are in converted buildings similar to the true lofts
that one would find in Manhattan, Chicago, or San Francisco. As city lifestyle
living
expands into the suburbs of DC, lofts are following into areas such as
Arlington and Alexandria in Northern Virginia and Bethesda and Silver
Spring in Maryland. Lofts are here to stay in the DC metro area.
